The Second Semester Exam will consist of a number of objective questions (multiple choice) and at least one essay question. It will be, at least for the essay portion, an open book exam (it will not be an open note exam). So you may bring and use all texts from this semester.

  • Kate Chopin's "The Story of An Hour"
  • Willa Cather's "A Wagner Matinee"
  • Eudora Welty's "A Worn Path"
  • F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby
  • J. D. Salinger's The Catcher in the Rye
  • Poetry by William Carlos Williams
  • Poetry by H. D., Cummings, Stevens, MacLeish, Frost, Hughes,McKay, Toomer, Chang, and Jarrell
  • Other poetry to be read upon taking the test
